“Adult Ed: Let’s Learn Together”

Not daily, not only Wednesdays (maybe only Wednesdays), rather on occasion…whenever l have something I’d like to bring to your attention. And even more occasionally will be a chuckle to end the article…sometimes more, sometimes less. It will all depend on how badly we’ll need to laugh. There’s one at the end of this one…by the way, I just tested negative for the virus.

Today I’d like to invite you to my Zoom adult education courses, once-a-month (maybe twice…you know, occasionally) through December. When I come up with the subjects I’d like to teach as we enter the new secular year, I’ll let you know, and if you have a suggestion then please let me know. In the meantime, here are the days and times for October, November and December. Each one will take place at 11:00 am on specific Saturday mornings…a little Torah for Shabbat:

October 10:    “To everything there is a season”: The Book of Ecclesiastes

November 7:    Our Liturgy: History, Mystery and Far More Than Prayers, Part One

November 21:  Our Liturgy… Part Two

       December 5:     No class

December 12:   Ask Me Anything (Within Reason!) Please SUBMIT questions a week before.

For the first class, you will need the text of Ecclesiastes which you can find in a copy of Hebrew Scriptures or online. It’s very important that you find the text inasmuch as this and most of what I teach will be interactive; I will not lecture.

Please do your best to read as much of Ecclesiastes as possible. It’s not a long book.

For the November classes you will need a copy of Gates of Prayer (the “Blue” edition) which we’ll make available at the Temple (I know a number of you have the Gray edition (thinner) or even Mishkan Tefilah, the new prayerbook. We won’t be using those as reference inasmuch as Gates of Blue, in my opinion, is the best “text” to learn about liturgy).

I’ll send a Zoom invitation (perhaps someone will volunteer to be host. That would be helpful).

Please let me know (interimbethelrabbi@gmail.com) at your earliest convenience if you’re interested in joining the classes, and which ones. There is no pressure. If you change your mind I won’t change your grade.
