“The Sour Cherry on the Cake”

Again, thanks to all of you who have expressed concern over our Covid-19 situation. Except for the test result let me tell you there isn’t anything “positive” about it. But Suzy and I are doing better and that’s what counts!

This week’s sedra Mishpatim continues – actually begins – the legislative nature of the Torah. We got the taste of it when the Ten Commandments were revealed, and in this portion there are fifty-three mitzvot. They range from the milk/meat prohibition to warning against mistreatment of the foreigner. I’m sure in the list is what to do and what not to do with respect to recuperation but as yet I haven’t found it. Not that it matters…the advice/orders I get from the three Grumbacher “physicians” and their Nurse Ratched overlord is far more potent than anything that Moses – heck, God – commanded the children of Israel!

But my focus is on the (sour) cherry on the cake, the denouement of a stinkin’ year, the emblematic event of twelve unparalleled months of agony…Super Bowl LV!

I hate Tom Brady. After he refused to shake hands with quarterback Nick Foles in the Eagles win (and, from what I understand, is the case with any other q’back who defeated him), I wanted nothing to do with him. He, like someone else, is the paradigm “loser” even if he won a gezillion games and even more MVP awards! There’s nothing worse than poor sportsmanship (well, there is, but I’m talking silly sports), and the poor role modeling shown by people like Brady who think the world revolves around them.

To add to the miserable three hours, what kind of a half-time show was that? As I texted my son’s father-in-law, I’m known to Google everybody and everything. I refused to Google The Weekend; it was the longest, most boring, irrelevant act. And just like the last year in general, the Weekend’s days blended into one, all-too-long series of hours, minutes and seconds…a perfect ending to a miserable year.

As I’ve asked before, what does this have to do with Judaism? And as I’ve answered, something for sure though at the moment I cannot think of anything other than I’m Jewish and these are my random thoughts which I had to get off my chest. So there.
